Sportcomplex De Vliet, Leiden is a striking example of contemporary architecture with a strong focus on sustainability. The sports hall, with its soft green Petrarch reconstituted stone façade cladding, blends beautifully into its surroundings; forming a seamless connection between city and nature.

Sustainability & Sports combine in this standout new complex

“The entire sports complex will be All-Electric. The implementation of PV panels on the roof, excellent insulation and economical installations make for an almost energy neutral sports complex. Additionally great attention has been paid to nature inclusivity, especially in consideration of Vliet’s green.”

Situated on the edge of Leiden, Sport complex De Vliet forms the new centrepiece of the wider Sportpark De Vliet. The site lies within a transitional zone between the urban fabric and the open natural landscape. Alongside the design of the sports building itself, a masterplan was developed for the revitalisation of the entire park. Previously fragmented and lacking cohesion, the park is now unified through new running tracks and outdoor sport courts, creating an interconnected network that integrates the complex seamlessly into its setting.
