As we’ve celebrated International Women’s Day #IWD2021 and Women in Construction Week this week, #WIC2021 we wanted to pay tribute to ‘our’ women in construction at APS.

As a manufacturer of architectural products, #facades and #framing we are more than aware of how women are under represented in our industry.

Sooo we are championing our own women this week and the women #architects and #contractors we have the pleasure of working with.

Starting with Sandy Roberts (top left) our Senior Estimator who wades through no end of technical problems and resolves them on a daily basis, and Janette Warren (bottom right) who equally faces many daily challenges, and is our Snr Finance Assistant, who throughout this difficult period has made sure everything has been on budget and to time. Thank you for being so great at what you do!

We actually had the chance to catch up with Janette earlier this week, to find out more about what she does. This is what she had to say about her career and role with APS:

Tell us about your role with APS Janette, how did it all begin, this step into the architectural product world!

I actually changed my vocation later on in life, and went to college to qualify as an accountant. When APSlaunched, they took a chance on me and employed me at the very beginning.

What does your role entail?

There is only one of me so daily I deal with Sales & Purchase ledger, credit control along with payroll and a small amount of HR. I have to manage a number of things at any one time. I assist my Finance Director with anything he may throw my way, and I enjoy the challenge and new feathers in my bow.

What’s a key highlight for you?

I would have to say it’s the atmosphere and the sense of team spirit, everyone at APS is united in reaching a common goal of success and this makes a really good working unit and a nice environment, when we can all work together that is!

And what about outside of work, what are you proud of?

Well I do like adrenalin sports and challenging myself and that more than prepares me for the rigours of any APS day!

• Climbed to the top of Snowden
• Jumped out of a plane at 12,000ft
• White water rafted in Wales in the middle of winter! Freezing.
• Rode 100k in one trip
• Run 5k most days (but not not on the weekend, even a woman in construction needs a rest!)

I’d just like to take a moment to thank all the women in our business on International Women’s Day 2021, all aside from Janette Warren , fall into Sandra Roberts Estimating team : Innes Leach, Judith Leech and Clare Taylor, with particular credit to Clare our Facade Estimator (we will showcase more of her talents a little later in the week) but I just want to say a special thanks and I am sure Vince Lunn too, because she always goes above and beyond, for which she is commended by both team mates and clients alike! Well done.
